With just a few months left before the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand, adidas has revealed five new limited edition jerseys to be worn by the country’s five Super Rugby teams during the tour.

In preparation for the three-test series against the mighty All Blacks, the Lions will play tour matches against the Crusaders, Chiefs, Blues, Highlanders and Hurricanes in some historic clashes, which will be given extra spice thanks to the NZRU agreeing to release each club’s All Blacks to play in the game.

All five jerseys are based around a similar design, with the main body of the shirt featuring a distressed map effect that represents the given area of New Zealand that each Super Rugby team represents.

In addition, the map design also highlights the territories of the provincial rugby unions that feed up to each Super Rugby side, while the sleeve cuff features geographical coordinates for the home city of each respective team, where the match against the Lions will take place.

“It’s a big year for rugby in New Zealand with the return of the Lions, so we want to arm all teams with everything they need to defend their territories.” said adidas’ Simon Cartwright.  “Each jersey is a visual representation of the pride they have in their region and what’s become very clear to us in our conversations with team leaders is that losing this battle is not an option.”

The jerseys will also be worn for select games during the 2017 Super Rugby season, and will only be available in 2017 – so get yours while you can!
