Ahead of welcoming the British & Irish Lions to New Zealand, the All Blacks have revealed a new training jersey that they’ll wear in preparation for the three-test series against the famous touring side in June and July.
The jersey is closely modeled on the Tour Edition jerseys that adidas created for the five New Zealand Super Rugby teams to wear in their matches against the Lions, and incorporates a variation on the distressed map theme that was common across those designs.
Unlike the tour jerseys, however, rather than leaning towards a traditional, muted colour scheme, the jerseys are primarily a striking, day-glo shade of orange, mixed with the traditional black colour as an accent shade on the collar, sleeve cuffs, and on the graphic on the body of the shirt.
The distressed map design itself differs from the one used on the Super Rugby jerseys. While the tour jerseys had a map that reflected which of the 26 provincial unions contribute to the respective Super Rugby team, this training shirt brings all of those maps forever, highlighting all 26 unions on the same battle-worn map.
