Canterbury is all about rugby and the New Zealand based company has released their 2014/15 collection of rugby cleats with a specialized cleat for every position on the field. The focused approach was started last year with the development of the 4 silos, the Speed, the Control, the Phoenix, and Stampede.
The Canterbury Speed Club 6 Stud Rugby Cleat does not need much explanation. The cleat is made for speed from the quick first step to the acceleration to the cuts during the run. The shoe is lightweight but gives great support in the mid-foot and flexibility in the toe-box. The nylon-aluminum studs keep the weight down and help provide great traction.
The new Yellow/Black colorway makes the cleat speak as loud as the player. The cleat is predominantly a fluorescent yellow with the black Canterbury logo on the instep and a silhouette of the Canterbury logo on the outstep. The outsole is black in the framing around the studs and translucent at other areas.
The Speed silo is geared to the wingers.
Kicking accuracy is many times the difference between winning and losing and the Control silo is all about converting when it counts. The 6-stub cleat is lightweight with a narrow fit. The toe-box has flexibility while the mid-foot and heel provides solid stability.
The touch on the ball is key for kickers and the synthetic upper is designed with comfort, fit, and touch in mind. The kicking zone is designed for a true contact with the ball and the tongue has a foam backing for comfort. Control Blades 6-stud configuration make sure the footing is reliable when the critical moment is at hand.
The Blue colorway helps this cleat stand-out as well. The honeycomb design on the toe and outstep provide the ‘control zone’ while the red detailing on the heel and cuff give the cleat some flash.
The Phoenix and Stampede are designed for the forwards. The both take a classic Black/Red colorway, nothing too eye-catching.
The Phoenix is geared especially for the second and back row players. It is relatively lightweight but with enough muscle to provide added support and cushioned areas to provide comfort and support, especially for players landing from line-outs.
The synthetic upper has some stitched details on the forefoot and instep and outstep. The heel tab makes it easy to pull on and get a close fit.
The outsole has reinforced zones with an optimal combination of flexibility and stability and a 6/2 aluminum stud configuration to give the players involved in the breakdown the needed push.
The Canterbury Stampede is for the front row forwards. These are the most secure and protective cleat and with the 8-stud 6/2 configuration has the power to dominate the scrum.
The cleat has a wide fit to provide comfort for the biggest and most powerful players on the field.
