Carlin Isles has signed with Glasgow Warriors of the RaboDirect Pro12 and is scheduled to arrive in Scotland the next couple of days to complete his medical and visa application. The Scottish side sees this as a major signing.
“This is a major coup for the club and a very exciting prospect,” Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said on the team’s official website. “Carlin is an exceptionally gifted athlete, who has picked up the game of rugby in a very short period of time and has had a huge impact on the sevens circuit over the last couple of years.”
Isles has been called ‘the fastest rugby player in the world.’
The 24-year-old is still relatively new to the game after taking up the game in 2012. He is a cross-over from American football where he was most recently on the practice squad of the NFL’s Detroit Lions.
Isles understands the challenges if the game but also has an appreciation of how he can help grow the game in the U.S.
“I hope to score tries for the Warriors, but I also want to continue to try and help grow the game and encourage young players to take up rugby,” Isles told the official team site. “It’s very exciting to be moving to the 15-a-side game. It’s a lot different to 7s but I want to work hard and do everything I can to succeed.”
