Ireland have revealed their 2017/18 home rugby jersey from Canterbury. The Men in Green debut the jerseys during the November international series.
The new jersey is designed to be a reinvention of the classic Ireland home design, with a fresh, modern twist, and Canterbury claims that the testing and technology implemented in the new design makes it the company’s most advanced jersey ever.
The most striking part of the new jersey’s design is the contrasting dark green sleeves, which are sublimated with a striking pattern that is modelled after the highest peaks of Ireland’s four provinces – Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster.
The pattern serves a secondary, and some would argue more important purpose – it is designed to act as a ‘visual distraction’, which Canterbury claims will mask player movement and allow them to slip past tacklers.
In addition, the jersey also features a striking new evolution on Canterbury’s classic Loop collar – the new ‘double layer’ loop is designed to be more ergonomic and hard wearing, and also features strengthening tape on either side.
The new design will be worn by Ireland for the first time when they take on the Springboks at the Aviva Stadium on 11 November 2017.
The jersey will be available in a short sleeve as well as a classic long sleeve version with polo style collar and more traditional fit.
