The New Zealand All Blacks host the British and Irish Lions this summer and have unveiled a special edition 2017 home jersey from adidas for the occasion. The jersey stays true to tradition with the all black look but includes a commemorative crest inspired by the one worn by the All Blacks in 1930 and used as a tribute to the history of the Lions tours which first visited New Zealand in 1904.
“I like it,” All Blacks captain Kieran Read said at the unveiling event. “It’s black which is good – that’s the first thing everyone wants. The crest is subtle but special for what’s going to be a special series.”
The commemorative crest has the New Zealand sliver fern and ‘ALL BLACKS’ name in white with ‘1904’ and ‘2017’ above and below the traditional crest, respectively, and surrounded by a shield. The dates and shield outline are in a lighter shade of black so don’t stand out as much as the traditional crest.
This crest will only be worn on the jersey for the 3 test matches against the Lions.
The adidas Performance logo is over the right chest and AIG logo on the center of the jersey in white.
The black jersey features a modern hybrid collar with button placket in the front and some subtle fern graphic detail on the jersey.
At the same event adidas announced it was extended their partnership with the All Blacks through 2023.
