South Africa have revealed the home shirt that the two-time world champions will be wearing for the 2017 international season. Once again, the Springboks kit has been produced by Japanese sports apparel brand, ASICS.
The 2017 shirt is the first new design that the Springboks have worn since before the 2015 Rugby World Cup, and the new jersey represents a return to a much more classic design than the Boks have worn in the last few years.
In contrast to the prominent gold sleeve hoops of recent years, opting for a very old-fashioned look with the classic dark green jersey paired with a traditional gold button-up, fold-over collar.
The new shirt isn’t totally classic, however – the new design has rubberised Springbok and SARU badges on the test jerseys (stitched on the supporter version) and also has tonal ‘mini Springbok’ logos sublimated throughout the design.
The Springboks will wear their ASICS 2017 home shirt for the first time at the start of the 2017 Rugby Championship. The Boks will wear their new red change strip – which will be revealed on 7 June – for this month’s three-test series against France.
