Tough Times in Dubai

The Eagles Sevens men’s and women’s sides had a tough time at the Dubai Rugby Sevens over the weekend.  The men’s side finished winless while the women finished in 7th place.

The men were drawn into a tough pool with Canada, England and Fiji.  Australia breezed past in the Bowl Quarterfinal setting up a final loss to France.  Men’s Eagles Sevens Head Coach Matt Hawkins side was did well to start fast grabbing a 7-0 and 14-0 advantage in the final 2 matches against Australia and France, respectively but could not make the hold up.

Next up is the Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens Dec. 7-8.

USA 14 – France 19
USA 7 – Australia 47
USA 7 – Canada 41
USA 5 – England 28
USA 5 – Fiji 36

The USA women finished the group stage 1-1-1 and struggled against powers New Zealand and Russia before finishing strong.  The Eagles held a 10-0 advantage over England but missed both conversions allowing England to sneak in with the win before finishing with a 26-24 win over Brazil.

Kelly Griffin scored 16 points in the win including the final conversion.
