Carlin Isles has established himself as one of the top USA Rugby 7’s players. The 26-year-old has not taken the standard path to his roster spot with the Eagles and talks about his journey to the game of rugby GoPro’s Two Roads series.
And the path to success to commitment and sacrifice. Isles packed up his bags to move to CO to train to become a rugby player. As he says, ‘he put all his eggs in one basket.’ The path has not been easy despite his talent as a track and field athlete and on the training team for the NFL’s Detroit Lions.
But it has paid off with Isles under contract with the USA Sevens team and called the ‘fastest rugby player in the world.’ This summer he will try and showcase his skills in front of the world as rugby returns to the Olympic Games for the first time since 1924. The Eagles are not a medal favorite but have shown during this season’s HSBC World Sevens Series they can compete with the top teams in the world to earn a place on the medal podium.
Isles’ episode is the 4th in GoPro’s 9 part series. Other athletes being highlighted are Bob and Mike Bryan, Britney Henry, Kristian Ipsen, Trenten Merrill, Casey Patterson, Allison Stokke, Miles Chamley Watson and coach Liang Chow.
